Latest News› Imperial War Museum visit (Jan 12)› Imperial War Museum (Jan 12) Gallery30 GCSE History and Psychology students, accompanied by Mrs Collier and Mrs Budd enjoyed a visit to the Imperial War Museum in London. Whilst there, History students were able to observe at first hand exhibitions and interactive displays relating to two of their units of work at GCSE level. Particularly useful was the audio olfactory experience of a reconstructed WWI trench showing the horrors of warfare and the appalling conditions suffered by soldiers fighting there. For the unit on Germany (1919-45) a visit to the new Holocaust exhibition gave a telling insight into social and military forces at large in this time period. Students found this both interesting and harrowing. The Artillery exhibition was also a real success with students being able to visualise the scale of fighting on the Western Front. For Psychology students the Holocaust exhibition gave the opportunity to gain background and introductory case study information for Adorno's 'Study of the Authoritarian Personality' and Milgrim's 'Study of Obedience'. After all of this hard work the reward of a little 'London shopping time' was well received and the return to Taunton was accompanied by silence (apart from a few snores!). |
